Synopsis: 1893.The Hawaiian Kingdom has been overthrown by a Western power just as anoutbreak ofleprosy engulfs the tropical paradise. The new government orders all Native Hawaiians suspected of havingthe foreign disease banished permanently to a remote colony on the island of Moloka'i that is known as 'theisland of the living grave'.When a local cowboy named Ko’olau and his young son Kalei contract the dreadeddisease, they refuse to allow their family to be separated, sparking an armed clash with brutal white islandauthorities that will make Ko’olau and his wife, Pi’ilani heroes forthe ages.Based on real-life historicalevents as told through the memoirs of Pi'ilani herself.
Event to Follow: The evening will include a cultural ceremony presented by a Native Hawaiian delegation led by Leon Siu, Secretary of State for the Hawaiian Kingdom. Also attending in person, "The Wind & the Reckoning" screenwriter John Fusco, who has long championed indigenous rights through his films (Thunderheart, Spirit, Dreamkeeper), the film's leading actors, Jason Scott Lee (Bruce Lee, Jungle Book, Mulan), Lindsay Anuhea Watson (Finding Ohana), Henry Ian Cusick (Lost,The 100), and the film's Director David L. Cunningham (To End All Wars) as well as Producer Dale Armin Johnson (Lost City of Z). In addition, a delegation of Native American elders representing tribes of the New England region will attend.
